Golden Summer
I am aware that black on black is not the "summer look" but I am so in love with this look I could not resist! This top worn as a dress is so beautiful and delicate I am scared to wash it at home for fear that it might get caught in a zipper and get all torn up. I can't really say that this outfit is perfect for summer, but worn with a pair of shorts and sandals instead of black pantyhose and heels can give it more of a summer vibe!
I bought this top on a day when I wasn't even planning on buying any tops . I was looking for some jeans, but as I walked back to the pants, I saw a black sleeve with gold flowers and I stopped, pulled it off the rack, took one look and knew it was mine! One of my favorite things about the top is the poofy sleeves- I have recently become so fascinated with (and in love with) the poofy sleeve look, that I am now always on the look out for something "poofy".
My shoes are ankle boots and they are a really fun way to add a little height and a lot of fun- they are super easy to walk in and can go with anything! So, next time you go out shopping, look for a great pair of ankle boots that can really be a "plus" to your wardrobe. You can pair them with your summer dresses, your colored skinny jeans or even shorts!
I decided to belt the top so it would look more like a dress and less like a top. Also, belting is a great way to show off your waist!
My hair is curled with velvet hot rollers and makeup is done with red lips and a light brown eyeshadow.

The Pocket Butterfly
As I write this post at 3am, I wonder why I don't wait till morning in hopes of having a better intro. Oh well ,what a great way to start off summer by editing a blog post when I should be sound asleep in my warm cozy bed. I'm not lying when I say that this day was gloomy, wet and the rain was constantly on and off all day. But, never the less, I wanted to blog!
Today I decided to wear a pair of shorts that have been the most difficult thing to wear because they are a size 16. Yes, you read that right, a size 16! Let's just say no matter how little time you have to shop or how cheap the item is, try it on it before you buy it! It will be to your benefit in the long run! Yes these shorts are about 10 sizes too big- but to fix the problem I tied them in the back and covered it with this pink throw on. (I bet no one would have noticed if I didn't even point it out).
High waisted shorts are the must haves for summer, they bring back a vintage vibe while still being "in".
Statement necklaces are a great way to finish a look or make a look. When shopping for a statement necklace refer to these tips.
Tip 1 - Think of at least 3 things it will match.
Tip 2 - Get a color that will go with most of your wardrobe. (Neon yellow and orange are not the best choice)
Tip 3 - Go cheap! The less you spend on one the more you can buy.
Stores I recommend for statement necklace- Rue 21, Charlotte Russe, Forever 21, Target, Local thrift stores.
My hair was curled with velvet hot rollers and braided back to make my my look chic and casual.
Red Lips and Red Nails finish off any look by giving your outfit a little class and sophistication.
Tip - don't overdue your lipstick-- a little red can go a long way so make sure your lipstick completes your outfit and face, not makes you look like a clown.

The Painted Flower.....
Sorry for the limited amount of photos! When I am going through and choosing, there is always that one thing in every picture that makes me not choose it whether the picture is too dark, not much of the outfit is showing or there is just too much happening in the photo and I lose focus.
So, it was a very hot Friday afternoon and I thought, "what a great time to pull out my favorite summer dress!" This dress mimics nature with the dark green backdrop and tan flowers that appear as if they were painted on. I think a flowery dress is so perfect for summer because it is easy to wear, yet, fashionable people won't notice that you just threw it on! Due to the shortness of this dress, I put a pair of blue jean shorts on.
My shoes consist of brown straps, blue jean print up front and a light cream on the wedge. (Three things that combine to be the perfect summer essential shoe!) I highly recommend finding a pair of wedges for summer that are a neutral color so you can mix and match them with your whole summer wardrobe and these shoes are perfect! They can go with a long dress, a flowy skirt and crop top, or even with shorts. They are "must haves" for summer!
My handbag is a small, little woven basket , every time I carry it around I feel like I am headed to a picnic.

a-tear-for-a-raindrop
For this post I posed in the cold pouring rain until my camera was so wet I had to continue under a gazebo to avoid future damage to my camera. Why did I almost ruin my camera and get a cold you ask? Well it is due to the fact that I love my fans and try really hard to amaze and inspire you all in any way I can!
The dress I am wearing has cuts half way down the back, in the front and on the shoulders. I purchased this dress for two reasons 1.The uniqueness of the cut outs 2. It is a great change up on the classic l.b.d. This dress flatters any figure with a instant slim down look- it accents every part of you figure that you actually don't mind showing off! I think every girl needs a dress she feels great in and that gives her the "own the room" feeling the second she walks through the door and for me this is that dress.
My shoes you have seen before from my "Lighten Up for Christmas" post. They were not my first choice in shoe for this outfit but after discussing this outfit with a friend and giving her options she quickly chose these. I must say I liked how they did not match completely, a shoe should fell genuine and special when you put them on sometimes you just know they are right even if they don't match perfectly.
The earrings remind me of a chandelier I might see hanging from a high ceiling in an old destroyed home, which I love! They are beautiful with their dark beads dangled so effortless on my ears. I am so excited I found them and it is a pleasure to add them to my jewelry collection.

Hey!!! It's been a while! A lot has happened since I last wrote to you all! Lets see, for starters I got my braces off! Yep after 5 years of pain and no chewing gum (except for cheating) and months of no popcorn (again cheated) I am done! I am thrilled to have them off and look forward to having a lot more posts with my new pearly whites. I also went to prom which was one of the best nights I have ever had! At first, I was debating going because I had no one to go with. Then one of my best friends invited me and (trust me) it was beyond worth it! From going dress shopping, to eating delicious food, and then dancing the night away with friends made the night fantastic. My prom theme was "Safari", and the dance floor was ornate with animal lights, tents, a huge dance floor and a rocking photo booth (including props).
Dress
So, for prom I wanted a vintage dress and I only had a week (yeah planned last minute, long story). Luckily, on my second day of shopping, the first dress I tried on was a winner! It had this classic look I loved and the perfect vintage blue I was hoping for. You all know I am about saving money, so "yes" this dress was inexpensive compared to most dresses. I got it brand new at J.C. Penny for only $35 (even though it looks a lot like those hundred dollar dresses I constantly came across while shopping online.)
Shoes
Shoes
I decided to wear a pair of shoes I already owned (they were super comfy) and I wore them for almost 3 hours! I loved the gold sparkle on those wedges!
Most girls take their shoes off the second they arrive to stay comfy all night.
Follow these tips:
Follow these tips:
- Wear wedges with an ankle strap
- If you wear heels, don't make the heel too thin. If you must wear a thin heel, make sure it has a strap as this allows you to stay balanced and makes it easier to walk!
(Helpful Hint: Jelly inserts make heels 10 times more comfortable)
Hair and Makeup
My hair is separated into top half and bottom half. To get my curls, I used my favorite velvet hot rollers to curl it which took about 45 min because I used less hair per curl to give a fuller effect.

Finding a clutch was the hardest part of my prom experience because I didn't realize how few stores actually sell clutches (at least for a reasonable price) . After going to about twelve different stores, I finally went to Payless whom I should have known would sell prom clutches because I see them every year neatly hanging on the racks. Anywho -- they ended up having this perfect silver one to match my dress to a "T".
For future purchases -- just skip the "maybe they will have what I am looking for stores" and go straight to the stores that have always had your back!

Jewelry is something that can "make or break" your entire outfit. I really wanted to steer away from the classic diamond necklace every girl wears, (yes, they are gorgeous but I wanted to be different), so I went searching for the perfect pearl necklace. Just like the clutch, I went in to many stores knowing the first place I should have gone was J.C. Penny, in which I have seen a whole section of assorted pearl necklaces. But, never the less, I found a single layer pearl necklace with matching earrings for much better quality and price then the local competitors.
Price
Dress- Original $175 -- I paid $35 at J.C. Penny
Shoes- "Payless" for $8 on sale from $15 (B.O.G.O)
Foundation- $6, Face Power-$6 Eyeshadow pallet of 3- $4
Matching Pearl necklace and earring- J.C. Penny $14
Clutch- "Payless" for $13
If you would like to send me a picture of your completed head-to-toe prom look along with your name, I will add you to my fan page:)
